Christmass tree
The #SenwesChristmasTree22 celebration, in collaboration with Thobo Trust, took place over two days this year, and on 9 and 10 November the site of Senwes' head office in Klerksdorp was transformed into a play-until-you-drop oasis with water worms, bouncy castles, traditional “Boeresport” activities and face painting artists - not to mention upbeat dance music.
According to Elmarie Joynt, Executive Manager: Corporate Social Responsibility, not even the coronavirus pandemic could deter Senwes from hosting this event. For two years, the party’s format had to be adapted to adhere to the set safety regulations, and as such the party took to the streets in true carnival-style. Elmarie is however, delighted that the event can once again be hosted at Senwes.
Elmarie believes that the annual party not only keeps the flame of kindness, humanity and goodwill burning brightly, but also, as it were, serves as a source of hope for the most vulnerable members of the community, namely children. The following institutions were part of this year's celebrations:
- Daphne Lee Center
- Manu Dei Special Education Centre
- Khaya Tshepo
- Triest Training Centre
- Viljoenskroon Youth Care Centre
- Janie Schneider School
- SAVF Atamelang Child and Youth Care Centre
- SAVF Rethabile Klerksdorp
- Nala Re Thabile Child and Youth Care Centre
In his welcome message, Francois Strydom, Group Chief Executive Officer, said that the Senwes Christmas Tree Project is more than just a proud Senwes tradition. This is a way in which Senwes demonstrates, in a tangible way, that it cares for its community. The project is also a way in which Senwes staff, through their actions and involvement, convey the heartbeat of Senwes to the outside world: a heartbeat that beats strong and healthy for people.
He also used the opportunity to thank the various sponsors for their involvement in the project. "I want to express a heartfelt thank you to every sponsor. Thank you for joining us and strengthening our efforts. Every smile, every exuberant laugh, good food and excitement that we will experience today can be attributed to your involvement.
